Kiambu Farmers Receive Hybrid Seeds from the County Government.
Governor Nyoro flagged off a consignment of 108 tonnes of seeds to be delivered to farmers in the county.
71 tonnes of maize seeds and 37 tonnes of beans will be delivered to 36,000 farmers with the intention of scaling it up to 100,000 farmers by next year.
This food security initiative by the Kiambu County government will also see 62,500 avocado seedlings and 11,000 mango seedlings distributed directly to farmers at a total cost of Sh48 million.
The seeds have been tested for the last 2 years in different ecological zones within Kiambu County and are expected to increase maize yields by 106,000 bags or Sh.266 Million. Present at the function included Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu, Agriculture CEC Joseph Kamau, among other officials.
